Which USDC network to use

Network choice decides most of what you pay in fees, and getting it wrong is the one mistake that loses funds outright. Match the network shown on the invoice exactly.

The case for paying with USDC

• Lowest total cost of any payment method on this site when sent over Solana or Base — the network fee rounds to zero.
• Issued by Circle, a US-regulated issuer that publishes monthly attestations, which some buyers prefer over Tether.
• Dollar-pegged, so no price movement between sending and confirmation.
• Native support on Coinbase, which is often the easiest on-ramp for buyers who do have banking access but whose card is being refused by Anthropic specifically.

The case against

• Thinner P2P liquidity than USDT in Nigeria, Pakistan and Egypt — if you are buying with local currency from a dealer, they will usually quote USDT.
• Circle can freeze addresses in response to law enforcement, the same centralisation trade-off as USDT.
• Multi-chain, so the same wrong-network hazard applies.

Where to get USDC

• Coinbase — buy USDC with a bank account and withdraw free on Solana or Base.
• Any major exchange; USDC is universally listed, and swapping USDT to USDC costs a fraction of a percent.
• On-chain swap from another asset via Jupiter (Solana) or a DEX aggregator if you already hold crypto.

Why the fee difference matters more than it looks

On a $24 one-month purchase, an $8 Ethereum gas fee is a 33% surcharge. The same purchase on Solana costs a fraction of a cent. Nothing else in this transaction has that kind of spread, which is why network choice deserves more attention than coin choice.

It also compounds. If you renew a monthly subscription twelve times, the difference between Solana and Ethereum fees is roughly the cost of an extra four months of Pro. Buying a longer term in one transaction is the other way to reduce this.

The Solana gas problem nobody mentions

USDC on Solana is the cheapest way to pay for anything at subscription size, but it has a trap that catches first-time users: you cannot send USDC without also holding a small amount of SOL. The network fee is paid in SOL, not in the token you are moving, so a wallet holding exactly the invoice amount in USDC and nothing else cannot send it.

The amount needed is trivial — fractions of a cent for the transaction itself — but zero is not enough. If you are withdrawing from an exchange straight to a payment address this does not apply, because the exchange covers it. It applies the moment a self-custody wallet is in the chain.

• Keep roughly $1 of SOL in any Solana wallet you intend to send from. It covers many transactions.
• A brand-new address also pays a small one-off rent-exempt deposit the first time it holds a given token. Budget for it once.
• If a send fails with an insufficient-funds error while your USDC balance is clearly sufficient, this is almost always the cause.

Which USDC network, and why it is a real choice

Unlike USDT, where TRON dominates, USDC is genuinely spread across chains and the right answer depends on where your balance already is. Solana is cheapest and fastest. Base and Polygon are close behind. Ethereum mainnet is technically fine and economically absurd at this size — a gas fee of several dollars against a $25 purchase.

The rule that matters more than any of this: send on the network the invoice names. USDC on Base sent to a Solana address is as lost as any other wrong-network transfer, and the fact that both are “USDC” is exactly what makes the mistake easy.

Why USDC rather than USDT for this purchase

Both work identically and neither is meaningfully better for a one-off subscription payment. The honest answer is that you should use whichever you already hold, because converting one to the other costs a spread and a fee for no benefit.

If you are acquiring from scratch and have the choice, USDC on Solana is the cheapest and fastest route available on this site. If you are buying on a P2P market in Nigeria, Pakistan or Argentina, you will find far deeper USDT liquidity and should use that instead — the theoretical advantages of USDC are worth less than actually being able to buy it.
