Why Iranian cards get declined on claude.ai
- Iran is disconnected from international card networks entirely — Visa and Mastercard do not operate there, so no Iranian-issued card can pay any foreign merchant.

What is specific to Iran
- Anthropic does not make Claude available in Iran. This is the decisive fact on this page: even a validly purchased gift code cannot be redeemed on an account that Anthropic will not serve.
- A gift subscription solves payment problems. It does not solve availability problems, and we will not pretend otherwise to make a sale.

Why no payment method fixes this
It helps to separate two different problems. A payment problem is when Anthropic will serve you but cannot take your money — that is solvable, with a different card or a gift code. An availability problem is when Anthropic will not serve the account at all, regardless of who paid. Only the first kind has a workaround.
Iran is the second kind. A gift code redeemed on an account Anthropic does not serve does not produce a working subscription, and buying one would simply be losing the money.
